The multi talented Walter Bondy belongs to the squad of outstanding Austrian artists, whose work fell victim to the despotism of National Socialism. Early in his career as a painter he turned to the French masters of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Fearing the emerging regime, he moved his residence from Berlin to the South of France at the beginning of the thirties. Many of his works, that were brought to Vienna, are considered as lost since their confiscation by the Nazis. Only rarely Bondy paintings appear on the art market – collector cherish them as coveted rarities.
